East Coast wildfire news.

The wildfire that started in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province and spread to Samcheok, Gangwon Province, has been going on for five days.

Even today (the 8th), the evolution work was not easy, but I will connect a reporter who is on the field.

Reporter Hyung-woo Jeon, there was a crisis in the Geumgangsong community today, but are you still fighting the flames a little more than yesterday?

<Reporter>

Yes, I am now at the Uljin Forest Fire Command Headquarters.

With today's evolution work, the evolution rate, which stayed at 50% all day yesterday, has risen to 65%.

There was once a dizzying crisis, but a stream of fire entered the Geumgangsong community, which had succeeded in defending against the wildfire.

The fire took the east wind at around 10 am and crossed the boundary line of the colony about 100m, and some pine trees were burned.

The authorities immediately put out the flames by focusing on equipment and crews, including two super-helicopters.

It was far from the core area where old cypresses such as 500-year-old pine trees were densely located, so the damage was not significant, authorities said.

It's late, can't you put your hands on the evolution work even at night?

<Reporter>

Yes, but I am concerned that the southeast wind is observed until late at night.

This is because the inland winds can move the flames toward the pine forest or private houses.

The Forest Service said it would not lower the vigilance even during the night.

[Byeong-am Choi / Commissioner of the Korea Forest Service: The surveillance personnel and the fire there could be saved.

We plan to always deploy and manage a mobile strike force that can strike immediately.]

As the sun went down, the helicopters stopped at 7 pm, and at night, we decided to focus on building a defense line by deploying manpower.

Authorities said that their goal is to extinguish the fire in Uljin within this week, but they are also preparing for a prolonged period.
