Some people have perhaps sometimes dreamed of deciphering what the other was feeling, without daring to ask him.

The Montpellier start-up Odaptos has developed an astonishing technology capable of detecting human emotions during a videoconference.

During the video intervention of a person, via the platform of the young company, what he says will be automatically transcribed: by drawing keywords from his speech, the artificial intelligence developed by Odaptos will report his feelings.

The use of words, syntax or semantics are all elements that will make it possible to "know if they are rather positive or negative feelings", confides Maximilien Joannides, co-founder of the start-up with Felipe Restrepo.

For website or video game testing

A report is then delivered to the company, so that it can improve its services. Do not panic, there is no question of unhealthy intrusion into our thoughts: the start-up intends its product for user testing. Especially to companies who want to learn more about the reactions of users, paid to give their opinion, when they survey a website. The technology could also be used tomorrow as part of a video game test session. "People will know, of course, that they are filmed and analyzed, there is no question of tracking them down without their authorizations", notes the entrepreneur.

This device is intended to replace long exchanges, during which a team of experts try to penetrate the emotions of users. Odaptos also hopes to seduce companies with attractive prices: 50 to 100 euros for 30 minutes or 1 hour of maintenance, against several thousand euros for traditional user tests. But Odaptos does not intend to stop there, and is adapting its technology, so that it will soon be able to detect emotions directly on the faces of people, during a video conference. Facial recognition, based on the eyes, mouth or facial movements, will make it possible to detect moments of "joy, fear, sadness or anger during the interview, in order to have even more details, to improve the services tested, explains Maximilien Joannides.

Fundraising by the end of the year

With its device, Odaptos has already caught the eye of several companies in California, Miami, Lyon and Montpellier.

"With more than 200 million active sites and a global user testing market expected to reach $ 2 billion in 2024, Odaptos has plenty to grow quickly," says the start-up.

The founders are hard at work to set up a fundraising by the end of the year, in order to constitute their team of about twenty people, by 2023. The innovation will also be presented at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, the prestigious international trade fair for new technologies, from January 5 to 8.
