The city of Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, has decided to build a public toilet worth 600 million won.

Today (15th), Uijeongbu City announced that it is planning to open a new 109㎡ public toilet in Uijeongbu-dong Yeokjeon Neighborhood Park with the goal of opening this year.

The city explained that citizens visiting the park and taxi drivers using the platform in front of the park built the toilet according to the complaint that there was no toilet.

However, it was controversial that the city of Uijeongbu was allocated an additional 200 million won from the budget in March of this year in addition to the budget of 400 million won last year. In the 2019 Cheongju International Craft Biennale exhibition Luminant House, which has a self-luminous effect, we are planning to build a model after the design.

When the facts became known, citizens criticized them for saying "Luxury toilet" and "Waste of blood". The Uijeongbu City Council of Justice also pointed out that "it is inappropriate to build a luxurious toilet with expensive materials considering the emotional sentiment of Corona 19" and demanded the withdrawal of the related budget.

Uijeongbu City is in a position to proceed without any changes to the plan. The city said, "I tried to make it a representative building of the neighborhood park, so I envisioned a bathroom with artistic characteristics, and the project cost increased during the design process."
