Spain's football champion Real Madrid has confidently moved into the Cup semi-final. With the 3-1 (2-0) at FC Girona, the Royal reached after five years for the first time again the round of the best four. Madrid had started the quarter-final home game (4-2) a week earlier with a clear advantage in the game.

A decisive part in the victory of the Madrilenians, in which national player Toni Kroos was in the starting line-up, had scorer Karim Benzema with his double (27th minute, 43.). For the French, it was the goals of the season 16 and 17 in cross-competition 34 missions. The third Real goal was scored by Marcos Llorente (76 '). Before that, Gironas had hit Pedro Porro 2-1 (71 ').

Real had last survived the quarter-finals in the 2013/2014 season and finally won the trophy for the 19th and so far last time.

The semi-finals will be joined by Madrid Betis Sevilla, Valencia CF and defending champions FC Barcelona. In particular, Barça's quarter-final appearance was spectacular: The Catalans had won 6-1 against Sevilla on Wednesday, catching up 2-0 from the first leg.
