Manchester United beat the Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (1-0) and secured their sixth competitive win in a row. Thus, interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started better than any coach in United history before him. In a high-class match, United striker Marcus Rashford (44th minute) remained the only scorer and made sure that his team in the table closed the gap to the other five top teams in the league.

United showed already at the beginning of the game that the return to offensive football under Solskjaer should also be continued against a top team like Tottenham. This benefited not only the spectators, but first and foremost the hosts, who approached in the 9th minute for the first time by a shot from Harry Winks and met in the 31st Minute first. However, scorer Harry Kane was offside after extra time by Delle Alli.

Manchester was not dissuaded from the course and rewarded before the break. Paul Pogba sent Rashford into the deep with a long ball, and the striker took his place, leaving Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris no chance (44 ').

In the second round, both teams came to numerous good opportunities. Alli (49.) and Harry Kane (59.) tried each head to equalize. However, David De Gea in the United goal was both times in his left corner and parried strongly.

For the guests, it was the towering Pogba, who always provided for danger. In the 54th minute he tried it first by the head. Lloris held the ball. Just like two minutes later when the Frenchman came back to the ball after a blocked shot and tried the toe. In the 62nd minute, Anthony Martial passed the ball to the assisted Pogba, whose deflected shot landed again in the arms of Lloris.

That the United leadership against superior Spurs had until the end of existence, owed the hosts their outstanding goalkeeper De Gea. The first stayed long against the onrushing Alli and parried from a short distance with the foot (70th), then tried it Toby Alderweireld from close range after a cross by Christian Eriksen, but failed again at the foot of the Spaniard (70th). Kane (86.) and Fernando Llorente (89.) tried again just before the end, but De Gea was there and made it perfect for his team.
