After just one hour, they were 0-0 in the Bundesliga match between Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart. Then the Leverkusen played a counterattack almost perfectly. Karim Bellarabi left in his own half with his hoe on Julian Brandt. He drove the ball over half the place and then served again the left Bellarabi started. His cross pass would have forced Kevin Volland from five meters only into the empty net - but he shot over it.

Volland himself ensured that this scene had no effect on the result at the end. First, the striker brought his team into the lead after a flank by Kai Havertz (76th minute), then met with a direct dismissal after substitute Lucas' preliminary work Alario to 2: 0 (81). Both scenes were much more demanding than the missed big chance, but that should not disturb either Volland or his teammates.

In extra time Alario had almost scored the 3: 0, the hit was not given due to an offside position (90 + 1). In the first half both teams could have been awarded a penalty each. Pablo Maffeo had been brought down by Charles Aránguiz in the first minute, but referee Robert Schröder had not recognized a foul. Even the video assistant saw no reason to revise the decision.

After a hand-play by Emiliano Insúa Schroeder then decided first on penalty, but was overruled by his video assistant. Insúa should not have the ball on, but stopped just before the penalty area by hand. Accordingly, a free-kick was decided (16.). Otherwise, it remained an eventful game - until Volland came.
