The farce about the future of Friedhelm Funkel at Fortuna Düsseldorf is over. The club announced that the expiring summer contract with the 65-year-old is now extended by one year.
In a conversation between Funkel, CEO Robert Schäfer and sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel apparently the recent differences were dispelled. Just four days ago, the table-14. in the training camp of Marbelladas announced the end of the collaboration with Funkel at the end of the current season.

This had led to a negative media coverage, protests of Düsseldorf fans and displeasure in the team. Not least for that reason, Schäfer had already completed a U-turn a day later and promised an agreement with sparkle.
Funkel has been working in Düsseldorf since March 2016 and has kept the team from relegation from the 2. Bundesliga and led them into the Bundesliga in the following season. In the first round, the Fortuna surprised with a 3: 3 in Munich and a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. After the last three wins in series, the lead on the relegation place is four points.
