The German U21 national team has caught in the draw for the European Football Championship 2019 in Italy and San Marino (16 to 30 June) a feasible preliminary round group. Ex-World Champion Andrea Pirlo won the defending champions on Friday in Bologna the teams from Denmark (17 June), Serbia (20 June) and Austria (23 June). Potentially stronger competitors such as Spain and France, the team of DFB coach Stefan Kuntz initially out of the way.

The winners of the three preliminary round groups as well as the best runner-up will reach the semi-finals and qualify for the Olympic Games 2020 in Japan.

Germany was set thanks to the best Uefa coefficient alongside hosts Italy and England as group heads. In Group A, Italy's record European champion will face Spain, Poland and Belgium, while in Group C the reigning U20 world champions England, France, Romania and Croatia complete the field of twelve participants.

The German U21 has been unbeaten for ten internationals in a row and comes up with nine wins and 33: 4 goals. Their EM qualifying group had won the DFB youngsters confidently with 25 out of a possible 30 points.

Italy and San Marino host the biennial finals for the first time. It will be played between 16 and 30 June in the five northern Italian cities of Udine, Trieste, Bologna, Reggio Emilia and Cesena, as well as in Serravalle in San Marino. The final will take place on 30 June in the 25,133-seat Stadio Friuli of Italian first division club Udinese Calcio.
