Second division football club Dynamo Dresden has responded to the weak start to the second half and left coach Maik Walpurgis with immediate effect. New head coach will be Cristian Fiel. The 38-year-old former captain of the Dresdner received a contract on Sunday until 30 June 2021 and will be officially presented on Thursday.

"The leave of absence of Maik Walpurgis and his co-trainers is for us in this situation without alternative, because not only the achievement of our goals this season in great danger has come, but also the faith is lost, to be successful together in this constellation ", explained Dynamo sports director Ralf Minge on Sunday.

For Walpurgis the term ends after only 166 days. The Dresdner had lost on Saturday 0: 2 (0: 1) at SV Darmstadt 98 and thus lost four of the five games after the winter break. Walpurgis only got one of 15 possible points, and Dynamo has not scored in the past four games.

"The athletic and tabular development of our team is worrying overall," said Minge. Walpurgis had taken over Dynamo only on 11 September 2018. In the 20 competitive games under his responsibility, there were six wins, five draws and nine defeats.
