Diede De Groot was pitted against her rival, world number two Yui Kamiji, in the final. In the first set she was down 2-5 but managed to turn around and secure the title in the Australian Open after two straight sets (7-5 6-4).
Subsequently, she stands at 21 Grand Slams, tying compatriot Esther Vergeer for the record of singles titles in wheelchair tennis.
- The funny thing is that if it hadn't been for the media, I wouldn't have had a clue about these records. But it's incredible, it shows that I'm doing very well. When I look back on everything, I am very proud of myself, says the 27-year-old.
