Werder Bremen won against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga for the first time in 16 years.

In the 1-0 (0-0) draw in Munich, Mitchell Weiser scored the winning goal (59th minute), which gave Bremen their fifth league game in a row without defeat.

In addition, Werder's winless streak in Bundesliga away games of eleven games across the season ended.

Thanks to the surprise success, Bremen climbed to twelfth place with 20 points.

Bayern, on the other hand, are losing some ground in the title fight with Bayer Leverkusen, who won spectacularly in Leipzig on Saturday evening.

The gap to the league leaders is now seven points, but Bayern still have a catch-up game to play against Union Berlin, which is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Werder played very defensively in a 5-3-2 with little space between defense and midfield.

Bayern, with Joshua Kimmich playing alone on the six and Raphaël Guerreiro slotting into the offensive line in the left half-space, had little space to combine.

It was particularly tight in the middle, with FCB often only getting harmless crosses from the half field or long-range shots like those from Leroy Sané (23'), who missed a good opportunity early on (7').

From this tight defense, Bremen tried some dangerous counterattacks.

Jens Tage broke through for the first time in the ninth minute, but his shot was no problem for Manuel Neuer.

The Bayern goalkeeper was more challenged when Alphonso Davies dangerously deflected a shot from Mitchell Weiser (24th).

Shortly afterwards, the guests celebrated: Bayern had lost the ball on the counterattack, then Romano Schmid sent Justin Njinmah with a through pass, who was free through and beat Neuer with a confident finish (25th).

However, Jamal Musiala was fouled by Stage when Bremen won the ball, which is why the goal was disallowed according to video evidence.

There was hardly any sign of Harry Kane, Bayern's superstar, in the game.

The Englishman only caught the eye in the 50th minute when he fired a long-range shot over the goal.

Bayern seemed a little more dynamic now, but Werder managed to take the lead.

After a long ball from Marco Friedl to the right side, Weiser dribbled against Davies and created some space with a hook inside.

The winger took advantage of this with a hard left-footed shot into the short corner, which Neuer couldn't do anything against (59').

Bayern rebelled and had more chances.

Sané's shot was parried by SVW goalkeeper Michael Zetterer (79'), Kane missed in the confusion (80'), Sané put a free kick just over the goal (83').

Zetterer directed Mathys Tel's header onto the post (87'), then Tel missed twice by centimeters (88' and 90'+5).

But the defeat could no longer be averted.
