One win in the last five league games, against Napoli, another struggling Italian giant. Ninth place in Serie A. A team and a game that does not end up falling in love with the respectable of the Olimpico. A lot of fuss inside the locker room. And the arrival of the third year at the helm of a team, a determining factor in all the clubs that José Mourinho (Setúbal, 1963) has managed

All these factors have ended up convincing the AS Roma leadership that it was the best time to part ways with the Portuguese coach. The Roman side announced on Tuesday that they were dispensing with the coach and his collaborators "with immediate effect".

"We thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and commitment since his arrival at theGiallorossi," Dan and Ryan Friedkin, the Italian team's top shareholders, said in a statement published by AS Roma on its official media. "We will always have great memories of his tenure, but we believe that, for the good of the club, an immediate change is necessary," the statement continued.

The recent defeat to Milan by three goals to one was the last straw that ended up exhausting the patience of the American leaders. The team was five points away from the Champions League zone and the feelings are quite negative regarding the Portuguese's ability to turn the situation around.

"We wish José and his team all the best for the future," the statement ended and specified that "more news about the new technical direction of the first team will be announced shortly."
