The Carthage Eagles are ready to take off. Tunisia plays its first match of the 2024 AFCON against Namibia on Tuesday (January 16th) in Korhogo, which hosts the Group E matches. After the "feeling of unfinished business" left by the previous AFCON and the World Cup in Qatar, Tunisia arrives in Ivory Coast "with great hunger", defender Montassar Talbi told AFP.

Tunisia is in the process of renewing its cadres after the international retirement of its technical leader Wahbi Khazri. Defender Montassar Talbi and striker Youssef Msakni took over.

Third African nation in the Fifa rankings (28th in the world), behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (20th), the Carthage Eagles have rarely shone in the continental competition. In 20 appearances, they have only won once, in 2004, on home soil, after being runners-up in South Africa, in 1996, and in 1965, again at home.

On the other hand, Namibia are still looking for their first win, having come back empty-handed in their first three appearances (1998, 2008 and 2019). They can count on their two best players, Deon Hotto (Orlando Pirates) and Peter Shalulile (Mamelodi Sundowns), who play in South Africa.
