Jadon Sancho is back at Borussia Dortmund. The English attacker will be on loan from his current football club Manchester United until the end of the season, Dortmund announced.

According to media reports, Manchester is to take over parts of the annual salary of allegedly around 20 million euros. Dortmund would have to pay around three million euros for their attacking dream player by the summer. Sancho's contract in Manchester runs until June 30, 2026.

Can Sancho build on his previous BVB performances?

The 23-year-old had already played for BVB from 2017 to 2021, when he scored 137 goals and provided 50 assists in 64 games. The highlight was winning the DFB Cup in May 2021. Sancho scored twice in the 4-1 final win over RB Leipzig. This was followed by a move to Manchester for 85 million euros. However, he did not get into the swing of things there, Sancho has only played the first three Premier League games this season.

Most recently, team manager Erik ten Hag had left him out of the squad after poor training performances. Sancho subsequently wrote on social media that he was being made a "scapegoat" and refused to apologize. The result was individual training, and he has been out of action since the end of August. For Dortmund, the loan is therefore not without risk.

BVB want to turn things around

BVB and coach Edin Terzić have a few weeks ahead of them. Those responsible around managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke had decided before Christmas to keep Terzić. The coach has only had one win from eight Bundesliga games to his name. However, they strengthened the coaching team, with former Dortmund pros Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender to support Terzić as assistant coaches.

In preparation for the second half of the season, BVB are still missing a number of players. Ramy Bensebaini and Sébastien Haller are at the Africa Cup of Nations. The injured Karim Adeyemi, Felix Nmecha and Julian Ryerson are not expected to return until February at the earliest.

BVB's first Bundesliga game of the year will take place at SV Darmstadt 13 on 98 January.
