It was a good answer in Trondheim this weekend where three Swedish men's skiers were top 10 in the 10 km classic. The next race is the Tour de Ski, which starts in Toblach on December 30.

"Both William, who is on his way up, and Calle, who was only 1.9 seconds from the podium on Sunday, have skied well in the sprint and I think they will be fighting at the top," says national team manager Anders Byström to SVT Sport.

In Trondheim this past weekend, Jens Burman was back and finished tenth, after a difficult start to the season.

"It looks better than it has in a long time for the men's squad, where Edvin Anger also makes an exciting challenge," says Anders Blomquist.

"It's hard to see anyone outmanoeuvring Kläbo"

In the Distance Cup, which has the greatest relevance to the Tour de Ski, five of the first six skiers are Norwegians.

"If William and Calle have a good flow, they can fight all the way, but it's clear that the Norwegian skiers are favourites. I find it difficult to see how anyone is going to outmanoeuvre Johannes Hösflot Kläbo. It feels like he's got that on top of that now," Blomquist said.

Norwegian skiers have won every race this World Cup season. Norway has totally dominated on the men's side with 21 of a total of 27 podiums so far.

"They have such an extreme breadth, and if one person gets sick, another steps in. But more countries need to improve and I hope that the Tour de Ski will be a little tougher for the Norwegians, says Anders Byström.

The national team manager sees a potential Austrian challenger.

"I think Mika Vermeulen is a great joker, he's had a great start to the season and can also ski well up the last hill," Byström said.
