Germany's women's handball team finished sixth at the World Championships. The team of national coach Markus Gaugisch lost the match for 5th place against the Netherlands 26:30 (7:16) in Herning, Denmark, after a weak performance.

For the DHB selection, however, it is the best World Cup performance since winning bronze in 2007. The best throwers in front of around 2000 spectators were left winger Antje Döll with seven goals and co-captain Alina Grijseels (6).

Due to the final ranking, the German opponents at the Olympic qualification in April next year have now also been determined. There, the DHB team will face Montenegro, Slovenia and Paraguay. The top two of the tournament will book their ticket to the Summer Games in Paris.
