In the Club World Cup, which determines the best club team in the world, the Urawa Red Diamonds of the Asian national team defeated Leon of Mexico 1-0 in their first match to advance to the semifinals.

The Reds continued to defend well and did not allow Leon to score until the end, winning 1-0 and advancing to the semi-finals.
