The snowboard halfpipe World Cup opener was held in China, and in the men's competition, 21-year-old Ryuka Hirano, who won the overall World Cup title in this event last season, finished second in Japan.

The snowboard halfpipe is an event in which the height and difficulty of skills in the air are competed with jumps called "air" while sliding on a course shaped like a cylinder, and the opening round of this season's World Cup was held in China on the 8th.

In the men's competition, which was contested by 10 people, Hirano, who won the overall title at the World Cup in this event last season, scored 2.4 and finished second with a difficult air sequence, including a series of two vertical rotations on a diagonal axis and four horizontal rotations.

Elsewhere in Japan, 88-year-old Shuichiro Shigeno was fifth, while Beijing Olympic gold medalist Ayumu Hirano, who was competing in the World Cup for the first time in two seasons, was ninth.

The winner was Scotty James of Australia, a silver medalist at the Beijing Olympics with a score of 25.2.

On the other hand, in the women's competition, Beijing Olympic bronze medalist Sena Tomita finished first in the qualifying round, but withdrew from the final.
