The match between Manchester United and Chelsea was eventful. Already in the sixth minute, United were awarded a penalty after a VAR review and from eleven yards, captain Bruno Fernandes wasted the chance to make it 1-0.

The game went back and forth with chances in both directions and in the 20th minute Man United broke the clean sheet. Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay made it 1-0. Chelsea equalised just before half-time through Cole Palmer.

With just over 20 minutes left of the game, Scott McTominay was in front again and made it 2-1 on a cross. Visiting Chelsea pressed but failed to equalise and three important points for United, who yesterday banned some journalists from covering the club's activities.

Notably, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was replaced at halftime. It's unclear why.

Manchester City suffered a heavy defeat

In Birmingham, Aston Villa managed to defeat defending champion Manchester City 1-0 when Leon Bailey scored the winner a quarter of an hour from the end.
