St.Pauli leads the German second league and was on a cup visit to Homburg, who usually play in the German fourth division.

The away side led 1-0 when passes from Karol Mets allowed home midfielder Markus Mendler to put the ball into an empty net.

A tuft of grass was involved in causing problems. Afterwards, the goalkeeper was self-critical:

"I think I've solved too many situations with one touch. Perhaps two would have been more appropriate," he says.

However, St. Pauli survived despite the big miss. They won the match with a clear 4-1.
