It was in the second set that Bergström ended up in a violent duel with the superior Chinese world number one Sun Yingsha, a duel that the Chinese eventually won.

The score was afterwards named the best of the day on the first day of the new tournament, which came about after a Swedish motion in 2021. The audience was thrilled several times during the score.

"It was a fantastic duel and what a great ball," the English-language commentator exclaimed on the International Table Tennis Federation's website.

Sun Yingsha also won the match – 3-0 (11-9,11-5,12-10).

In the mixed doubles, the Chinese pair Lin/Wang won against Kristian Karlsson in pair with Stina Källberg with 3-0 (11-9,11-2,11-4).

Puerto Rico and Hong Kong in the group

In the third match, Wang Chuqin won against Anton Källberg 2-0 (11-6,11-7).

Thus, China won the match 8-0. In the different format, you play until a team has eight sets won.

The other teams in the group are Puerto Rico and Hong Kong, with the top two teams advancing to Stage 2. Sweden will play their two remaining group games on Tuesday.

"First of all, I hope that we are able to advance from the first group stage. If we reach our normal level, there are good chances for that," coach Tobias Bergman told the Swedish federation before the match against China.
