240 caps, which becomes 241 when Sweden meets Spain in the final Nations League match, is enough. Caroline Seger is stepping down from the national team after 18 years, most of them as team captain.

– That she is quitting right now is not so strange because she has been affected by injuries and with age it is difficult to stay at the level she wants to be, says SVT Sport's expert Hanna Marklund.

Marklund goes on to praise the 38-year-old Seger.

"She's such a great footballer, as much as she has done for Swedish football for so many years," she says, adding:

"It's this captain who has stepped up when needed, who has steered the team. That she has been behind a lot during these successful years.

A memory that probably sticks strongly with many is the penalty miss from Caroline Seger in the Olympic final in 2021 against Canada, where Sweden had to settle for silver.

That memory is also strong in Hanna Marklund's work.

"But above all, how she still got up after that, came back and scored the next penalty, continued to lead this national team to success. She's the greatest leader I've seen on a football field.
