It was at the beginning of 2023 that Rafael Nadal injured his hip at the Australian Open, forcing him to have surgery.

He has had a plan for some time to make his return early next year – and now the 37-year-old has confirmed that this will be the case.

"After a year's absence from competing, it's time for me to make a comeback," he says in a video clip on X.

Nadal will compete in the Brisbane International, which runs from December 31 to January 7.

The Spaniard has won 22 Grand Slam titles during his career.
