Which teams will face France in the group stage of Euro 2024? After a qualifying phase from which they emerged unbeaten, Les Bleus will know their first three opponents of the tournament on Saturday 2 December. A very tricky draw is still possible.

A simple group stage, or a bumpy path? How will Didier Deschamps' men, led on the pitch by Kylian Mbappé eager to prove himself as captain, and to make people forget the affront of the previous Euros, try to get out of the group stage? Europe 1 takes a look at Les Bleus' potential opponents in search of a third European Champions title, and the best and worst possible scenario.

The first thing to know is that France is in Pot 1 of the draw, which brings together the favorites of the competition with Spain, England, Germany, Belgium and Portugal. Les Bleus are therefore guaranteed not to face them in the group stage, as it is impossible for a nation to face a country from the same hat. As for Pots 2, 3 and 4, they are made up according to the results of the qualifying phase for the Euros.

That's why we find Italy, the reigning European champions, in Pot 4, which brings together the "weakest" countries of the competition, after qualifying in extremis against Ukraine.

A group of "death" still possible for France

The risk of being in a "group of death" is therefore still possible for Les Bleus, as in 2021 when they had to face Germany, Portugal and Hungary in the first round of the competition. In the worst-case scenario, Les Bleus find themselves in the same group as Denmark (semi-finalist of the previous Euro), Croatia (3rd in the last World Cup) and Italy.

And if luck smiles on Les Bleus, France will face a group composed of Albania, Slovenia (or Slovakia) and the winner of the play-offs of Path 3 (Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece or Kazakhstan).

So which nations will make up the group of the France team? The answer will be on Saturday, December 2, after the draw at 18 p.m. in Hamburg.
