The women's mass start in Ruka came to a dramatic end. On the penultimate hill, American Jessie Diggins lost a pole.

She quickly got a new one, but at the handover she was hit by the pole in the face and then crossed the finish line bloodied.

The 32-year-old was helped away from the finish line by U.S. officials.

Moa Ilar won the competition.
