The cold shower in Baku came after only two and a half minutes.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was the last man to get in over his head, which Renat Dadasov took advantage of. The striker snatched the ball and got it to captain Emin Makhmudov who tapped in the lead goal.

Nightmare Minutes

The precarious start then got even worse. Just three minutes later, Dadasov extended the lead to 2-0 after a passive Swedish defensive play.

20 minutes later, Sweden came close to a reduction after a very messy situation after a corner. The ball bounced between several players and danced on the goal line, but it all resulted in a goal kick. The score was 2–0 until the end of the half.

Goal from half the pitch

Ten minutes into the second, Sweden called for a penalty when Viktor Gyökeres was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. The defender received a yellow card initially but it was then corrected to a red after a VAR review.

Emil Forsberg got a nice hit on the ensuing free kick but the Azeri goalkeeper managed to steer the ball into the crossbar.

Instead of a Swedish reduction, the score was 3–0 in the final minutes. Team captain Emin Machmudov noticed that Robin Olsen was standing far out and cut in from half the field.
