The IOC = International Olympic Committee has announced that it will simultaneously decide the venue for the 2030 and 34 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. If officially decided, the candidate sites are expected to be narrowed down by the end of next month, making it difficult for Sapporo City, which has just switched to hosting the Games after 34 years.

The IOC Executive Board Meeting was held in Mumbai, India, on the 12th, and President Bach held a press conference after the meeting.

Regarding the 2030 and 34 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Future Host Committee said that it had received a proposal to simultaneously decide the venue, stating that "the Board of Directors has approved the consideration of this proposal as a measure to address climate change," and clarified that it will be deliberated at the General Assembly starting on June 15.

If approved by the General Assembly, the candidate sites will be narrowed down within the next month and a decision will be made at the General Assembly to be held in Paris next year.

Regarding the Winter Games, Sapporo City and the JOC = Japan Olympic Committee, which were originally aiming to bid for the 2030 Games, have just changed their policy to bid for the Games after 34 years due to insufficient public understanding due to the influence of bid-rigging and corruption scandals at the Tokyo Games in the summer.

Salt Lake City in the United States is considered a strong force for the 2034 Games, partly due to local support, making it difficult for Sapporo City to realize its bid for the 34th Games.

"Unexpected" policy for Sapporo City and JOC

The IOC's announcement that it would simultaneously decide the host city for the 2030 and 34 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games was "unexpected" for Sapporo City and the JOC, which had just changed its policy to bid for the Games after 34.

At a press conference between Sapporo City and the JOC held in Tokyo on May 11, when asked by the press whether the possibility of 2030 years would become more severe if the venues for 34 and 34 were narrowed down to the end of the year at the same time, JOC Chairman Yasuhiro Yamashita replied, "There is some such information, but I think it is unlikely."

In addition, many bidders considered it unlikely that a decision would be made at the same time, and we expected that there would be plenty of time before narrowing down the candidate sites for the '34 Games, so we decided to aim for the bidding.

On the other hand, in the past, due to a series of cases in which cities that were candidates for host cities withdrew due to huge costs and other reasons over the bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, the IOC made the unusual decision to allocate candidate cities and decide on Paris for 24 years and Los Angeles for 28 years at the same time.

The IOC explained that the reason for proposing this simultaneous decision was "to give us time to respond to the rapidly advancing climate change," suggesting that the IOC is trying to flexibly respond to the selection of venues against the backdrop of the challenges facing the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sapporo City Official: "If the bid is to be held after 2038, it will be necessary to reorganize the partition"

A Sapporo City executive told NHK, "I haven't heard anything official, but if 2030 and 34 are to be decided at the same time, there is no time to build citizens' momentum and survey their intentions, so it is not an environment where the city can be selected as the host city for 2034.

IOC Decides to Propose Five Additional Sports for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

IOC = International Olympic Committee discussed additional sports at the Board of Directors meeting on the 13th about additional sports at the Los Angeles Olympics in the summer of 2028, and the Games Organising Committee proposed
▽Baseball and softball
▽Cricket
▽Flag football
▽Lacrosse
. We have decided to propose all
five squash sports to the General Assembly on the 5th.

It was also decided to propose to the General Assembly that weightlifting and modern pentathlon, which had been pending due to problems for international sports organizations to solve, had
been improved
to a certain extent, and
that the implementation of the event be held at the Los Angeles Games.

Of these, in the modern pentathlon, obstacle races will be added to the event instead of horse riding.

On the other hand, boxing will continue to be put on hold because there is no alternative to the IBA = International Boxing Association, whose recognition as an international governing body was revoked in June due to governance issues.

In rowing, a new event, the beach sprint, was proposed instead of the men's and women's lightweight double sculls.
