A press conference was held on the 15th in which all the athletes participating in the national marathon selection race for the Paris Olympics participated, and Maeda Honan, the defending women's champion, expressed her confidence, saying, "I want to push at my own fast pace."

MGC = "Marathon Grand Championship" is a selection race in which athletes with the required times are selected to represent the Paris Olympics on the spot if they finish in the top two, and 2 women and 13 men participated in the press conference held on the 24th before the race.

In the women's competition, defending champion Maeda expressed her confidence, saying, "I think I can show my strength by pushing at my own pace and running at my own rhythm, so I have created that image."

In addition, Ayuko Suzuki, who finished second last time, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "I have been building up and down the legs to win the race, and I will do my best to get a result."

On the other hand, Mao Ichiyama, who finished eighth at the Tokyo Olympics, emphatically stated, "I have been practicing with the only intention in mind that no matter what the race unfolds, I will definitely get the result of representing the Paris Olympics.

On the other hand, in the men's competition, Japan record holder Kengo Suzuki said, "I have been doing everything for MGC in my life and practice, and I want to run with a strong desire on the day."

In addition, Suguru Osako, who finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics, expressed a sense of fulfillment, saying, "I have been thinking about practicing hard as usual, and I think my body is in very good condition, so I want to enter the race in the best condition both mentally and physically."

The race, which will be held on the 2th, will start at 8 a.m. for the men and 6:15 a.m. for the women, and NHK will broadcast the women's race on general television.

The course features "6 turnaround points" and "the last 5 km steep hill"

In anticipation of next year's Paris Olympics, this year's MGC is set to test the competitive strength of the athletes.

The athletes start from the National Stadium and head north, then continue along Yasukuni Street, pass the Iidabashi intersection, and head to Suidobashi. From around 8.5 kilometers past Jimbocho, you will make two laps of the 1-kilometer course. The circuit is a course that turns around Kanda Ogawacho, Ueno Hirokoji, and Uchisaiwaicho near Hibiya Park, and while passing Ginza and Japan Bridge, a total of five turnovers await the athletes. After that, the athletes make a final turn at Uchibori Street, and after 11 kilometers, they run up a steep climb with a height difference of 2 meters starting from Suidobashi Bridge to the finish point, the National Stadium.

There are two main features of this course, the first is "5 turns". Another feature is the steep climb that awaits in the last 35 kilometers.

When the course was announced in February, Toshihiko Seko, then vice president of the Japan Athletic Federation, cited this as a key point of the competition and said, "I think the players will compete here." In addition Japan Toshinari Takaoka, Senior Director of the Japan Athletic Federation, said, "The course requires toughness from the players, and the course at the Paris Olympics is also tough.
