Agneta Andersson is one of Sweden's greatest Olympic athletes of all time. She has won three Olympic gold medals – two in Los Angeles in 1984 and one in Atlanta in 1996.

In 1996, Andersson was awarded Svenska Dagbladet's medal of achievement together with Susanne Gunnarsson. Together they won Olympic gold in Atlanta.

In 1984, Andersson, born in Karlskoga, won gold both individually and in K-2 together with Anna Olsson.

In addition to the Olympic golds, the canoeing legend won four more Olympic medals. She also won the gold medal at the 1993 World Championships in Copenhagen.

Charlotte Kalla is the only Swedish woman to have as many Olympic gold medals as Andersson.

Nya Wermlands-Tidningen has been in contact with Andersson's family, who have asked to be left alone in their grief.
