On Wednesday, Sara Hagström, ahead of Tove Alexandersson, won the gold medal at the European Championships in the women's sprint at the European Orienteering Championships in Italy. That was then followed up by another gold in the mixed relay on Friday.

On Sunday afternoon, it was time for the finals of the knockout sprint. Three Swedes, Tove Alexandersson, Hanna Lundberg and Sara Hagström, stood on the starting line to compete for the medals.

Tove Alexandersson took command early and before the third checkpoint the Swede pulled away. The star then did not let go of his grip, despite a poor choice of route in the middle of the race with a time of 6:38.6.
