According to Sky Sports, UEFA considers the decision of countries to boycott matches with Russian national teams to be inconsistent.

In February 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA suspended Russian teams from participating in tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.

On September 26, 2023, the UEFA Executive Committee made a proposal to allow the Russian junior team to participate in international competitions. At the same time, the organization said that they would not allow the rest of the Russian teams to participate in tournaments until the end of the special military operation.

Earlier, the honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov did not rule out that UEFA would be able to convince some countries to abandon the boycott.
