The sporting events that should not be missed, the summary of the five major championships and the image of the weekend... Here is the sports recap of France 24.

The sports news of the weekend

Captain Antoine Dupont back to training in the France team: this is one of the soap operas that keeps rugby fans in suspense. Will the captain of the XV of France and best player in the world, Antoine Dupont, recover from his fractured jaw for the quarter-finals? The scrum-half returned to the squad this weekend and resumed the exercise. No contact rugby for the moment on the menu, but a first step is taken for his return.

World Gymnastics: Soup to the grimace at the world championships of gymnastics on the side of the Blues. The men's France team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics after finishing in 19th place in qualifying.

Europe remains master at home in the Ryder Cup: The Europe of golf has (a little) doubted, but it remained intractable within its borders with its victory Sunday, October 1 in Rome in the Ryder Cup, extending the famine of the United States who have not imposed themselves outside their lands for thirty years.

Towards a royal wedding in cycling? The boss of Soudal-Quick Step confirmed on Saturday the existence of discussions around a merger between his team and the Dutch armada Jumbo-Visma, whose riders have won all three Grand Tours this year. Such a merger would represent an earthquake in the bicycle and would raise countless questions from a sporting, legal and human point of view. Starting with the cohabitation between stars such as the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, double winner of the Tour of France, the Belgians Remco Evenepoel and Wout van Aert, the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe or the American Sepp Kuss, recent winner of the Tour of Spain where the Jumbo took the first three places. Additional information is expected on Monday 2 October.

In Women's D1, OL won against PSG: In the great duel of French women's football, OL won 1-0 against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, their second victory in the Women's Championship in as many matches, thanks to a goal from Eugenie Le Sommer, in a match rich in intensity and opportunities.

On the European football side

On Saturday night, AS Monaco took the lead in Ligue 1 – thanks to the goal difference with Brest – after a stunning victory against Olympique de Marseille (3-2) led for the first time by Italian Gennaro Gattuso. PSG was not reassured before its trip to the Champions League at Newcastle next Wednesday, stalling Saturday at Clermont (0-0) carried by its goalkeeper trained in Paris, Mory Diaw. On Friday, Lens was more efficient and continued its recovery. Thanks to his recruit Elye Wahi, Franck Haise's men won against Strasbourg (0-1), regaining some confidence before the reception of Arsenal on Tuesday in the Champions League and Lille in the derby of the North next weekend.

After being led 2-0 on the pitch of RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich managed to turn the match around to snatch the draw (2-2) on Saturday, but ceded control of the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen. Three teams are still unbeaten after six rounds in the German league: Bayer Leverkusen with 16 points (five wins and one draw), who have the best start to the season in their history, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund with 14 points (four wins for two draws). Stuttgart is sandwiched between these three unbeaten teams in second place thanks to its fifth victory of the season in Cologne (0-2), with 15 points, unheard of for the Swabian club since 1996.

Real Madrid gives lessons in realism. Real Madrid recovered the first place of the Spanish championship on Saturday by going to win on the lawn of Girona (0-3), yet leader before this day. Madrid thus overtake FC Barcelona, winner Friday of Sevilla (1-0) and are one point ahead of their historical rivals.

The two Milan clubs are still fighting at the top of Serie A. Inter Milan, beaten at home by Sassuolo (1-2) on Wednesday, returned to victory thanks to a quadruple of Lautaro Martinez on the field of Salernitana (0-4). Inter returned to the top of the table with 18 points, the same number of points as AC Milan, earlier winners of Lazio (2-0), second due to a less favorable goal difference (+7, against +16). Defending champions Napoli are third with 14 points after their 4-0 win at Lecce.

The top group tightened Saturday in England after the fall of Manchester City, a first this season in which the new runner-up Tottenham and Arsenal, to whom the leader goes next weekend with a small lead. The defending champion, so far imperial with six wins in six rounds, stumbled at Wolverhampton (2-1), and the suspense was totally revived by the success of Tottenham, in extra time against Liverpool (2-1), and that of Arsenal at Bournemouth (0-4). Between the Citizens and sixth Brighton, knocked out at fifth Aston Villa (6-1), there is only three points difference. Liverpool, fourth, remain in the pack despite their extremely cruel defeat at Tottenham.
