The Referees Committee in England announced on Sunday the replacement of referees Darren England and Dan Cook, in two matches in the current round of the English Premier League football, after they were responsible for managing VAR in the match Tottenham and Liverpool.

The match, which was held yesterday, and Tottenham won 2-1, saw the referee cancel a correct goal for Liverpool at the behest of VAR under the pretext of an offside on Colombian Luis Diaz, striker "Reds".

Liverpool played with 9 players after the expulsion of Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota, before a goal scored by Joel Matip by mistake in his own goal in stoppage time decided the victory for Tottenham.

Liverpool thought they had taken the lead when Luis Diaz received Mohamed Salah's pass and shot into the far corner but the referee ruled it out for offside.

The referees association issued a statement on Saturday evening blaming "significant human error" for cancelling Diaz's goal, noting: "This was a real and obvious mistake. The goal should have been awarded with a VAR intervention."

In a statement issued on Sunday, the league said: "It has been decided to replace Darren England VAR in Tottenham's match against Liverpool and Dan Cook (assistant) in the same match in Nottingham Forest against Brentford and Fulham against Chelsea (the first played today and the second tomorrow).

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp expressed anger at the referees' decisions, whether not to count Diaz's goal or the expulsion of two of his players.

Klopp said: "(Diaz's goal) is offside. This is not an offside when you see it. The rulers drew the lines wrong. The ball is between Mohamed Salah's feet. They didn't correctly estimate when the ball came out of Salah's foot."

"We scored an own goal, and that's really hard to accept. In the first expulsion Curtis had the ball with him and he lost it. Not a bad intervention. It looks different in slow replay. He runs after the ball at full speed. This is unfortunate. The first ultimatum (for Jota) was not worth being an ultimatum. Then he got the second, and defending with eight men is difficult".
