Hangzhou, September 9 (Guo Qiyu) On September 20, the modern pentathlon of the Hangzhou Asian Games began at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center, including fencing, swimming, equestrian, shooting and running. The competition is mainly divided into men's individual competition, women's individual competition, men's team competition, and women's team competition, and a total of 9 gold medals are produced.

The modern pentathlon of the Hangzhou Asian Games is also the qualification event for the modern pentathlon of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and 10 athletes (5 women and 5 men) will qualify for the Paris Olympic Games.

On the first day of the competition, in the women's individual fencing competition, China's Bian Yufei ranked first with a score of 265 points.

"In today's game, I paid more attention to myself, fully invested in myself, and played my strengths and skills." Bian Yufei believes that it is important to have a good attitude in the game, overcome the nervousness and enjoy the game, but pay more attention to the opponent and the result.

It is understood that the modern pentathlon debuted at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan. South Korea has been leading the modern pentathlon at the Asian Games for nearly three decades, winning a total of 23 medals, including eight gold.

South Korean athlete JUN Woongtae won bronze in the modern pentathlon individual event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and gold in this event at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. He is looking forward to defending his title at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The strength of the Chinese team is also not to be underestimated. In the 2022 Asian Modern Pentathlon Championships, the Chinese team won the gold medal in the men's team event, and the Chinese team members Luo Shuai and Li Shuhuan won the gold and bronze medals in the men's singles event. They will all compete in the Hangzhou Asian Games.

In terms of performance rankings, modern pentathlon ranks athletes based on the total number of points they have completed in the competition. If the total score is the same, they will be ranked according to the scores of fencing, swimming, equestrian, and laser running. (End)
