Regarding the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, which Sapporo City aims to bid, Yasuhiro Yamashita, President of the JOC = Japan Olympic Committee, stated at a press conference on the 13th that "the situation is extremely severe" and clarified the current situation where bidding activities are not progressing.

This was revealed by Chairman Yamashita at the JOC's regular press conference held on the 13th.

Regarding the progress of bidding activities for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, which Sapporo City is aiming to bid, he stated, "At present, the JOC has hardly taken any activities to build momentum, and we recognize that the situation is extremely difficult with regard to bidding," and clarified the current situation where bidding activities are not progressing.

He also stated, "It is very important to appeal to the significance of holding the event widely and at the same time to listen honestly to the opinions of citizens and Hokkaido residents."

With regard to Sapporo's bidding activities, whose approval rating has declined due to corruption and bid-rigging incidents surrounding the Tokyo Games, the City of Sapporo and the JOC will consider bidding not only in 2030 but also after that.

In the run-up to the 2030 Games, at least six other candidate sites are developing bidding activities: Salt Lake City in the United States, Vancouver and Sweden in Canada, Switzerland, which is active in any year, and France, which is aiming to host the Games jointly by the two regions.

The IOC = International Olympic Committee has indicated that it will decide the venue for 2 by next summer's Paris Olympics.
