It looked like it could be a nightmare start for Sweden when the team's number one, 35th-ranked Linda Bergström, was down 0-2 in sets against Spain's runner-up, 118th-ranked Sofia-Xuan Zhang. But after two straight set victories, she forced a fifth and outright decisive set. Once there, she ended up at an early disadvantage, 0-5. But Bergstrom came back strong and had 7-7, before dropping to 7-10 which gave the Spaniard three match balls.

Then Bergström showed tremendous mental strength and pushed in five straight balls to win 12-10, giving Sweden a 1-0 lead.

"I just kept thinking, 'I'm not going to lose.' I just refused to give up," she told SVT Sport.

Spain's number one Maria Xiao, ranked 65th in the world, then equalized to 1-1 when she against Stina Källberg, ranked 84th, won 3-0 in sets.

But Sweden bounced back when third-placed Filippa Bergand and Jan Riera were pitted against each other. Bergand dominated the match, winning 11-2, 11-4, 11-7.

2-1, and time for Linda Bergström to close the match with victory against Maria Xiao. But instead it would be a 2-2 situation after Xiao won 3-1 in sets against Bergström despite the fact that it was the Swede who convincingly won the first set with 11-5.

In the fifth and decisive match, it was a thriller that was decided in the fifth set. Stina Källberg managed to secure the victory for Sweden after dominating the fifth set, which she won 11-2 against Xuan Zhang.
