A British report reviewed the size of the net spending of European clubs on deals over the last decade, which is topped by Manchester United, the record holder for the number of times winning the English Premier League title (20 times).

The British newspaper "Sun" that Manchester United is the only club in Europe and the world that exceeded the net spending barrier of one billion pounds (one billion and 170 million euros) in the last ten years, specifically since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from the training of the "Red Devils" and took over the Dutch Louis van Gaal after him in 2014.

Manchester United's net spending in the last decade has reached £1.2 billion, including £524 million since the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, with revenue from the sale of players accounted for.

In the recent summer transfer market, Manchester United spent £164m (€191m) to sign Rasmus Hoylund from Atalanta, Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan, which contributed to the increase in the total amount of spending.

In total, the £1.2bn net amount spent on the signing of 5 coaches and 54 players who have won Manchester United the Europa League once and the FA Cup and League Cup twice, a very disappointing outcome compared to the size of net spending.

Chelsea are second behind Manchester United due to the resounding deals the club have made since the acquisition of American businessman Todd Poiley, with net spending of £558m in the last "Mercato" and £880m in the previous two periods.

English teams have the lion's share in the top 10 list, which includes 7 of them: Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, along with Manchester United and Chelsea, while the other three clubs are Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Milan.

The figures of these clubs, specifically the English ones, as they are the most spenders, contrast with the net profits achieved by Benfica or Ajax Amsterdam in the same period, with the former earning £655 million and the latter rebounding his treasury with a surplus of £372 million in the last ten years.
