• Crónica Alcaraz completes another remarkable match against Tsitsipas and will play against Djokovic in semifinals

Finalist in 2021 and world number five, Stefanos Tsitsipas has suffered a tough defeat in three sets against Carlos Alcaraz, on Tuesday in the quarters of Roland Garrros, arguing that a part of the blame was the "melatonin" he had taken.

"He played well, it wasn't exceptional tennis, but he played well. There is one thing I will avoid in the future, is taking melatonin pills and taking a little nap just before a game, it has not gone well, "said the Greek at a press conference, still shocked by his defeat; 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7/5) in just over two hours.

For his part, Alcaraz, number 1 in the world, stressed that his match against Tsitsipas had been "one of the best of his career". The Murcian will play this Friday the semifinals against Novak Djokovic.

"Programming has been a bit difficult for a few days now. I've had sessions at night, not too late, but enough for me, to disrupt my sleep schedule," Tsitsipas said.

"And sleep is vital, essential. Recovery is the most important thing in competition and when you play Grand Slam," he continued.

"I don't want to take anything away from Carlos, he's a guy who plays very well... But I get angry that melatonin has had this effect on me. We keep moving forward!" he concluded.
