When Häcken's men won the Svenska Cupen on 18 May this year, they also won a European place. But that was not the case when xx on Tuesday took home the cup on the women's side.

"It's probably a sign that men's football is further ahead than we are. It is perhaps the next step that women's football can take, says Hammarby's Jonna Andersson.

It is the European Football Association Uefa that has decided that there should not be a European place in the pot on the women's side. Due to this, the Swedish Football Association has added a prize of SEK 150,000.

More cups needed in Europe

Robert Vilahamn, coach of Häcken, believes that an equivalent to the men's Europa League is required on the women's side for there to be a change.

"I hope that out in Europe they start a Europa League variant so that not only the Champions League exists. The men's side doesn't have a Champions League place, but a Europa League place in the pot," he says.

"Then you can probably max out this cup a little more. Even though glory and trophy are great fun, I think it would take a little more spice to spice it up, he says.

Jonna Andersson does not believe that clubs in Europe would have accepted this difference that exists in the Swedish Cup for women and men.

"No, I don't think so. Then I don't know how much we have to say, they are well allocated places based on some rankings.
