The young Frenchman Arthur Fils, semi-finalist in Montpellier two weeks ago, confirmed his excellent start to the season by easily winning his first round at the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille on Wednesday against the Russian Roman Safiullin (6-4, 6-3 ).

The Frenchman will face Jannik Sinner in the second round.

Arthur Fils, currently ranked 118th in the world in the ATP rankings, confirms his good start to the season after his victory against Roman Safiullin (97th in the ATP).

The 18-year-old tricolor prodigy easily dismissed the Russian, who was a semi-finalist last year in Marseille.

He won in straight sets 6-3 6-4.

Very solid, he only faced one break point at the end of the second set.

"I had a tactic and I followed it rather well," explained Laurent Raymond's protege after the meeting, delighted to have "stayed focused on all points".

This is Son's 13th win in 15 matches since the start of the season.

He first won the challenger of Oeiras before reaching the final of that of Quimper and the semi-finals at the ATP 250 in Montpellier, after victories against Richard Gasquet and Roberto Bautista.

Revenge against Sinner

He will face Thursday in the second round of this ATP 250 tournament the Italian Jannik Sinner, 12th player in the world and seeded number 2, who had ended his fine career in Montpellier (7-5, 6-2).

"In Montpellier, it's not much to play for, I have two first set balls. I hope to get out of it with the victory this time", declared the finalist of Roland-Garros junior in 2021.

"I have to use this game and think a lot about the right tactics," he added.
