Tim Lobinger belonged to the world elite in pole vaulting for over ten years.

Lobinger won the indoor EC, took three EC medals and became the first German ever to jump over six meters.

In 2017, he was diagnosed with leukemia.

The German was later declared healthy, but last year he announced that the cancer had returned and that it was incurable.

- I am no longer getting better.

The cancer is too aggressive.

The conversations with the children are tough.

They know how bad I am there, he told Bild newspaper then.

Now he has passed away, already at the age of 50.

"Won it his way"

Lobinger's family has released a statement to Bild.

"Tim Lobinger passed away on February 16 in Munich at the age of 50 after a serious illness.

The former pole vaulting legend calmly fell asleep in a small circle, he did not lose the fight, but won it in his own way.”

Everywhere on social media, the sports world remembers the German.

Swedish Emil Forsberg's club RB Leipzig, where Lobinger was a physical trainer between 2012 and 2016, expresses its sadness.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, Tim," they write on social media.
