The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced today, Friday, the allocation of one million dollars for humanitarian aid for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

The earthquake claimed the lives of more than 43 thousand people in the two countries, and millions of people need assistance after they became homeless and without basic facilities.

FIFA said it had consulted the Turkish and Syrian football federations and "international and local non-governmental organisations".

"The aid will be directed to the procurement and distribution of basic humanitarian items, as well as the provision of emergency and temporary shelters and protection," he added - in a statement.

"FIFA will continue to cooperate with the Turkish and Syrian federations while monitoring the situation for further action," he added.

The English Premier League said last week that it would donate one million pounds ($1.19 million), while the European Football Association (UEFA) and its Children's Foundation donated an initial 200,000 euros ($212,560).
