Today, Friday, February 17, was the last day to register for the basketball league 23/24.

But a letter from Kalmar basketball does not come.

The team that already had financial problems in 2021 will not continue in the top league next season.

The reasons are clear: The economy, lack of help from the municipality and poor communication with the basketball association.

The decision causes SVT's expert Nick Rajacic to rage.

- It is unacceptable, it is very obvious that it is completely out of control.

The federation and the clubs have to deal with it now, otherwise there will be no clubs and leagues in a few years.

"Must lower the requirements"

In 13 years, 23 clubs have now withdrawn from Sweden's top league on the men's and women's sides.

- It is embarrassing.

I think it is very obvious that the association has too high requirements for the clubs to come up in the league.

You have to lower the requirements so that the clubs can come up and survive for more than a year or maybe you have to raise the requirements and then you have eight clubs in the leagues.

So let them play against each other, I don't know, it can't look like this anyway.

It looks very bad if you are going to market the league.

How to proceed now?

- The confederation, the leagues and the clubs have to get together and talk and make some tough decisions this summer.

Basketball is growing among young people and who should they look up to if there are no clubs to watch or play in.

Sören Westin, chairman of the Men's Basketball League Association.

- Nick is fundamentally right that it is not good for us that there are so many teams who cannot bear to follow through.

Nick is entitled to a lot but not 100, we need to do more and we have tried.

This is a sign that we have to make more efforts, says Westin to SVT Sport.

Westin also highlights what the big problem is.

- The very best teams in our league are completely professional with everything.

We have a distance between our Superetta and the league and that gap must shrink.

We have done a lot but not enough.

But what is required for teams that come up to make it is to increase sponsorship income.
