30-year-old profile Sofia Goggia has never won gold at the WC.
On Saturday, she had the chance.
The Italian was a big favorite before the downhill race in Courchevel, but failed completely.
Towards the end of her run, she faced a serious miss.
Goggia went straight through a gate, which is forbidden, and was therefore washed.
After the run, she remained for a long time in the finish line and was comforted by Italian leaders.
- It is very sad to see.
But I'm glad she didn't fall over and injure herself, says Norwegian skater Ragnhild Mowinckel to SVT Sport.
The victory went to the Swiss Jasmine Flury.
She won ahead of Nina Ortileb, Austria, and Corrine Suter of Switzerland.
- It feels completely unreal, says Flury afterwards.
