In front of a record crowd of 24,000 spectators, the soccer players from FC Bayern Munich impressively disenchanted the star ensemble of FC Barcelona and set their sights firmly on the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Thanks to a strong start and great efficiency, coach Alexander Straus' team beat the previously unbeaten Catalans 3-1 (2-0) in the Allianz Arena.

Birthday girl Klara Bühl (4th), captain Lina Magull (10th) and top striker Lea Schüller (60th) scored for the Munich team, who drew level with the Spaniards with nine points after four games and have a good chance of progressing.

Brazil's Geyse (65') scored for Barca.

"It's an amazing feeling.

Winning against Barcelona in front of such a backdrop is just great,” said Schüller on DAZN.

Coach Straus was "proud" of his team: "Today we had the necessary quality.

That's exactly how we want to continue.” Midfielder Sarah Zadrazil also raved about the crowd: “We're on the right track.

There was a hype after the European Championship.

But there is still room for improvement.

I am pleased that I can be part of this development and that we are opening doors for the next generation.” The incredible atmosphere fills her with pride.

"We play great football and it's nice that people take notice of it."

Bayern especially strong in the early stages

"We'll clearly top the previous record of 13,000 spectators against Paris St. Germain in the spring and that will give our team another boost," Herbert Hainer assured - and the FC Bayern president was right.

With a fast offensive game, the Munich team literally overran last year's finalists, Bühl scored an early lead on her 22nd birthday after a cross from national team colleague Sydney Lohmann.

Magull immediately followed up on a pass from Schüller.

However, without their injured world champion Alexia Putellas, the Catalans then took control of the game.

The gaps in the Munich defense kept getting bigger, but FCB keeper Maria Luisa Grohs made a strong save.

The second in the German championship, who had been shown his limits in the 3-0 loss in the first leg two weeks ago at the Camp Nou, defended the lead passionately and made everything clear with international striker Schüller following a Magull cross.

Straus' team will continue on Thursday at FC Rosengard, bottom of the table.

At the end of the group phase, the Munich team will host Benfica Lisbon on December 21st.

The Portuguese are currently three points behind Bayern in third place.
