In response to the corruption scandal surrounding the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the Japan Sports Agency and the JOC = Japan Olympic Committee launched a project team to consider how a large-scale sports event should be managed, and held its first meeting on the 18th. I was.

The meeting held at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology was attended by Japan Sports Agency Commissioner Murofushi, JOC President Yamashita, as well as lawyers and certified public accountants who are members of the project team.



Based on the bribery scandal surrounding the sponsorship contract for the Tokyo Games, Secretary Murofushi said, "This causes great anxiety and disappointment among the people. The bidding and holding of the Games depends on the understanding and cooperation of the people. Organizations that manage large-scale tournaments have a high public nature, and it is most important to build a system that ensures careful explanations, transparency, and fairness."



With the Asian Games to be held mainly in Aichi Prefecture in 2026, and the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics that Sapporo City is aiming to host, the project team has in mind large-scale events such as the organizing committee responsible for operations. We are considering how governance and information disclosure should be and formulating guidelines.



At the meeting on the 18th, the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games and the person in charge of Sapporo City reported on efforts to ensure governance, and examples from overseas were also introduced. It was introduced that all parties, including athletes and volunteers, have set up a point of contact to report illegal acts and ethical violations.



The project team plans to proceed with discussions while conducting interviews with former staff members of the Tokyo Organizing Committee, and to compile guidelines by February next year.
