Women's speed skating sprinter Kim Min-seon became the first Korean female athlete to win a silver medal in the 1,000m World Cup.

Kim Min-sun competed in the Women's 1,000m Division A (1st Division) in the first round of the 2022-2023 International Ice Skating Federation (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup held in Stavanger, Norway on the 14th, with a result of 1:15.82 in Rey, Utah, Netherlands. It took second place after Le Dame (Netherlands, 1:15.61).

After she started out on the group 9 out course, Minseon Kim continued her race with a stable stance after passing her first 200m in her second overall record of 17.98.

She ran in 27 seconds 78 for the 200-600m section and 30 seconds 06 for the 600-1,000m section.

This is the first time that a Korean women's ice skater won a silver medal in the women's 1,000m World Cup.

Lee Sang-hwa, the world record holder for the women's 500m world record, also won two bronze medals in the women's 1,000m at the World Cup.

After winning the women's 500m the previous day, Kim Minseon stood shoulder to shoulder with the world's best athletes in the women's 1,000m, standing tall as a candidate for her next Olympic medal.

Kim Min-sun was her top prospect during her junior years, who stood out in her sprints.

In December 2017 she broke her junior world record held by Lee Sang-hwa in the women's 500m in the women's 500m in the 2017-2018 season.

After that, Kim Min-sun had a long period of stagnation, but grew explosively ahead of her next season.

After finishing 7th in the women's 500m at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in February, he gained confidence by winning a bronze medal in the women's 500m at the ISU World Cup Final in March.

And in this event, she won the gold medal in the women's 500m at the World Cup for the first time since Lee Sang-hwa's retirement, and even before the thrill of winning was lost, she became the first Korean female athlete to win the silver medal in the 1,000m.

Kim Min-sun also beat Japan's ice skateboard Miho Takagi (1:16.41, bronze), the women's 1,000m gold medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics that day.

Kim Min-sun, who achieved her best performance in this competition, will again challenge the golden race in her second World Cup, which will open in Heirenbein, Netherlands on the 18th.

Meanwhile, Jeong Jae-won (Uijeongbu City Hall), who participated in the men's mass start that day, came in 6th, and Lee Seung-hoon (IHQ) took 9th.
