World Cup 2022: Senegal coach extends contract until 2024

The Senegalese Football Association announced yesterday the extension of the contract of its national coach, Aliou Cissé, until 2024, before announcing the final list of players participating in the World Cup in Qatar today.

"The Senegalese Football Association welcomes the extension of the contract of national coach Aliou Cissé," the local football federation tweeted.

"The 2022 African champion will be responsible for the first team until 2024," he added, speaking of Cissé, without specifying the contract value.

Cissé has been coaching the "Teranga Lions" since March 2015. This rare stability allowed him to build a solid squad that led him to the quarter-finals of the 2017 African Nations Cup, and to the 2019 final, before being dedicated in 2022 in Senegal's first title, which also lost the 2002 final that held During which Cisse captaincy.

The "Teranga Lions" came out of the quarter-finals in the 2022 World Cup, and from the first round of the World Cup in Russia 2018. Senegal will start its campaign in Qatar against the Netherlands on the 21st of this month, in the first group along with the host country Qatar and Ecuador.
