Qatar has never played a World Cup before, but will be in this year's World Cup by virtue of being the home nation.

When the squad was presented today, it was completely homegrown.

All 26 players represent clubs in the Qatari league, and ten of the players were born in countries other than Qatar.

Won the genre rope

Qatar have played intensively throughout the year, winning their last five matches.

The day before yesterday they played their last match before the World Cup, when they won 1-0 against Albania in a match in Marbella.

The goal was scored by Sudan-born striker Almoez Ali, who won the top-scoring league in last year's Gold Cup, which is the North and Central American championship.

Qatar opens the World Cup by facing Ecuador in the opening match next Sunday.

Senegal and the Netherlands also play in the group.
