Karl-Erik Nilsson will soon have served his maximum twelve years as chairman of the Swedish Football Association.

Earlier on Friday, Expressen was able to reveal the first four names nominated to be his successor ahead of the annual meeting in March 2023.

The candidates were later confirmed by the Football Association.

The only woman among the names is Annika Grälls.

She is chairman of Elite Football Dam (EFD) and has been a member of SvFF's confederation board since 2016. She also sits on Uefa's marketing committee and is a member of SOK's election committee.

- I got a call from some who wanted to nominate me during the summer and after thinking about it, I felt that this is definitely something I want to try, she says.

Susanne Erlandsson was nominated in 2011

The Swedish Football Association has never had a female president.

Susanne Erlandsson was nominated for the post in 2011, but then Karl-Erik Nilsson was chosen instead as successor to Lars-Åke Lagrell.

However, Annika Grälls is clear that she does not want to be seen as "the person who can become the first female chairman".

- I think the most important thing is that there is the right competence.

And the background I have, both from the confederation board where I take responsibility for Swedish football in general but also from having been in the association and district, means that I have a breadth.

This also applies to Women's Elite Soccer.

I think it is an advantage that I have different perspectives, she says.

Fredrik Reinfeldt among the nominees

If you were to be elected, what would be the most important issue?

- I don't answer hypothetical questions.

We'll see, it's a long process before the annual meeting in March.

Other nominees are SvFF's current national team manager Jens T Andersson, Västmanland's FF chairman Birger Jonsson and Sweden's former prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.

Several names can also be added.

The last day to nominate candidates is January 15.
